Our product system already includes many additives. What is the fundamental difference between compatibilizers and other additives (such as lubricants and plasticizers)?

Compatibilizers differ fundamentally from lubricants and plasticizers in terms of their mechanisms and objectives:

Lubricants: Aim to reduce friction between polymer molecules or between the polymer and processing equipment, primarily improving processability and flow. They typically have a negative impact on the final mechanical properties of the material.

Plasticizers: Work by inserting themselves between polymer chains, weakening the intermolecular forces, thereby increasing the material's flexibility. This usually results in reduced strength, modulus, and heat resistance.

Compatibilizers: Their core function is to construct and strengthen interfaces. The goal is to achieve a synergistic combination between different components, enhancing the overall mechanical properties, thermal stability, and dimensional stability of composite materials. They are considered "constructive" rather than "weakening" additives.
